A historic place, shared with heart

Meet Frank and Saskia and discover how a new chapter in their lives led them from the Netherlands to a historic watermill in the mountains of Málaga.

From the Netherlands to Andalusia

We are Frank and Saskia, both born and raised in Valkenswaard in the Netherlands. Frank spent many years working in construction, while Saskia worked as an executive secretary at a brewery. With our children having left home, we felt it was time for something completely different. Our children had left home and we were ready for more peace, space and a new adventure. During our holidays in Andalusia, we had already fallen in love with the landscape, climate and slower pace of life. In 2022, we decided to make that feeling permanent and moved to Carratraca, a small mountain village in the province of Málaga, affectionately known as ‘the Diamond of Málaga’.

Meet Chica & Zoë

Chica and Zoë are part of everyday life at El Bufón de la Corte. They are always happy to welcome new faces and will gladly share some attention and affection with our guests.

If these walls could talk

El Bufón de la Corte has a story that reaches back long before we arrived. The original watermill dates from around 1880 and was renovated from a ruin in 1963. We often say that if the walls and floors could talk, we would love to hear the stories they could tell.

In 2022, we began a new chapter of our own. We brought the property back to life ourselves and transformed it into El Bufón de la Corte, a B&B with six rooms and private bathrooms. Throughout the house, original details such as the old millstones remain visible in the floors and walls, keeping its history part of everyday life here.

Hospitality that feels personal

For us, hospitality is about making people feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. Saskia takes care of the welcome, check-in and check-out and makes sure the rooms are ready for our guests. Frank looks after the property, maintenance and the improvements that keep El Bufón de la Corte moving forward. We both enjoy sharing our knowledge of the area, whether you are looking for a beautiful route, a good restaurant or simply some practical advice. At the same time, we believe you should have the freedom to enjoy your stay in your own way. El Bufón de la Corte is intentionally small and informal, with personal contact and a relaxed atmosphere at its heart.

Genuine hospitality

Warm, informal and sincere, without unnecessary formality.

A name with a connection to home

The name El Bufón de la Corte carries a little piece of our Dutch roots. We both grew up in Valkenswaard, once home to the well-known Hofnar cigar factory. When searching for a name for our new place in Spain, we wanted to keep that connection alive. Hofnar became El Bufón de la Corte in Spanish, and even the names of our rooms continue the story, each inspired by a cigar name.

From booking to arrival

Choose the room and travel dates that suit your plans and send your reservation request directly through our website. Frank and Saskia will personally confirm the details and provide the practical information you need before travelling to Carratraca. If you have questions or special requests, you can discuss them directly before confirming your stay.
